🎉 Congratulations to Chelsie Lambrecht on earning her SHRM‑CP (Certified Professional) designation!

Chelsie recently completed CWSHRM’s SHRM Prep Course, led by our Certification Director, Lisa Nowak. A benefit to being a CWSHRM member (member for at least one year) is that upon successful completion of the SHRM Certification exam, members will receive a $350 stipend from the chapter as well as a frame to proudly display the certificate.

We connected with Chelsie to learn more about her journey and the steps she took to reach this important career milestone.

Why did you decide to obtain your SHRM-CP and take the exam?

I set my sights on earning my SHRM-CP certification at the very beginning of my HR career, nearly four years ago. I pursued this certification to strengthen my credibility and enhance my professional growth in human resources. Earning the SHRM-CP demonstrates my commitment to the HR profession and my dedication to continuous learning. It validates my knowledge and provides a strong foundation for long-term career advancement.

Did you participate in the CWSHRM prep course?
Yes, I took the SHRM prep course offered through the CWSHRM. The course met every Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for 12 weeks and was instructor-led alongside other HR professionals. One of the best parts of the course was that everyone was at a different stage in their HR career and in life, which enriched the learning experience. During class, we learned the material, worked through practice questions, and shared ideas and perspectives with one another. Once class ended, my studying did not stop. I spent additional time each night reading the material for upcoming sessions and fitting in practice questions whenever possible.

If so, how did the prep course help benefit you?
The prep course provided structure and accountability to my study process. Having an instructor explain concepts and relate them to real-world scenarios made the material more approachable and easier to understand. Group discussions were especially beneficial, as diverse perspectives helped reinforce key concepts and made complex topics more relatable. The practice questions also helped familiarize me with the exam format and expectations, which increased my confidence on test day.

What words of advice do you have for anyone else unsure about obtaining their certification?
My advice would be to pursue the certification, even if you feel unsure. The process requires time, dedication, and commitment, but it is well worth the effort. Do not be discouraged if you do not pass on the first attempt—I did not. While it was disappointing, the experience helped me identify areas for improvement and better prepare for future success. The journey strengthened my resilience and reinforced my commitment to the HR profession. Stay consistent in your studying, seek support through prep courses or study groups, and remember that setbacks do not define your abilities or potential. The investment you make in yourself will pay dividends both personally and professionally.

If SHRM certification is part of your own professional development goals, great news—our Spring Prep Course begins February 18, 2026!
