Madelynn recently achieved her SHRM-CP designation through SHRM. We asked her to share her journey with us and the steps she took to reach this achievement:
Why did you decide to obtain your SHRM-CP and take the exam?
To advance my professional development, continue learning, and because it was recommended by my leaders. Earning the certification takes a lot of work, but having those letters after your name is an accomplishment you can be proud of.
Did you participate in the CWSHRM prep course?
No, I participated in the Fox Valley SHRM Study group.
How did participating in a study group help you?
Learning alongside others and sharing tips and strategies for remembering information and answering questions played a significant role in my success.
What words of advice do you have for anyone else unsure about obtaining their certification?
You will never know everything that will be on the exam, so don’t expect to memorize every term or textbook. Of course, spend time learning the content by studying PowerPoints, reading textbooks, and reviewing Quizlets and index cards. But most importantly, learn how to answer questions from the “SHRM” perspective. Approach your everyday work with the SHRM mindset, take practice tests, and download the “HR SHRM” app for additional practice questions on the go. Once you have reviewed everything, take the practice test several times and use the results to guide any additional studying.
